I Can't Buy It!

"They are trying way too hard."

Have you ever watched a tv show/movie or had a conversation with someone and thought that?  Sometimes it could be a matter of trying to create a sense of chemistry that isn't there or maybe one person is trying to impress another.  It's quite interesting to me. . .

I remember having a conversation with my uncle, a few years ago.  We were discussing the various ways that people may treat PKs (preacher's kids).  Sometimes people feel extremely comfortable talking to me- when they find out that my father is a pastor.  (At times, they become a little too comfortable and I start to feel like their therapist. . . I love to offer encouraging words though.  And I appreciate the fact that they trust me enough to share things with me.)  Other people seem to close up.  It's as though they think I'll scrutinize their every move :-/.  I promise- I'm a sweetheart :-).

THEN. . . we have those people who end up being somewhat extra.  These individuals TRULY make an effort to prove just how spiritual, saved and deep they (think they) are!

Now, please don't misunderstand me.  I definitely agree with Matthew 5:16-> ". . . let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father."(NLT)

The King James Version reads, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."  Regardless of which translation you choose, it's important to pay attention to what the Word says.  Both versions say, "Let your light/good deeds shine. . ." *Brief English Lesson* "Let" means to allow or permit.

However, what these people almost end up doing is forcing their "light."  They feel the need to quote every scripture they know, sing every gospel song they've heard and recite lines from the latest televangelist-> at the most RANDOM times (lol).

I really don't like sensing that people feel like they have to present themselves in this manner.  You don't have to prove how saved you are. . . Just LIVE it!  We all will see the light/love of God shining through You- if you are sincere about your Christian walk.
"Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions."- Matthew 7:20 (NLT)

I understand wanting your light to shine, trying to impact the world, etc. but please check your motives.  Are you seeking the approval of your friends and family or are you simply striving to grow closer to God???

Please don't bother trying to sell your salvation to me.  I can't buy it!  One's salvation really is not yours (or mine) to sell/prove to others. . . And I'm working out my own (Philippians 2:12) :-).

  1. So many "Christians" fall into this! It's quite funny actually. Just like the song states, "May the WORKS I've done speak for me..." May the good deeds, the love, the time we put into others SPEAK for us... and not our tongues.

  2. I love this Twin. I think you hit the nail right on the head. Often times people feel like they have to prove themselves to others to be accepted but little do they realize is that we are trying to get ourselves together. No one is perfect but everyday that God gives us is a chance to get it right so don't take his grace and mercy for granted. I loved your blog. Hopefully this will fall into the hands of the right people. Love ya K- Money

    1. Thanks McCoy-> I agree. We all should be striving for perfection in Christ. However, our goal shouldn't be to impress other people, but to be pleasing in His sight :-). Love ya too!

  3. Kara, this is awesome, lol! People (in general) can be so caught up on what others think about them and their actions, when earthly opinions really don't count! Thanks for reminding me to always check the motives behind my actions. Love ya!

    1. Thanks Mo! You're exactly right- they don't count! Some of the comments people have made to me, in the past have blown my mind. . . (TMI!) Actions speak louder than words so in the spirit of SWTT- don't talk about it, "Be About It!" ;-). Love ya too!

  4. Love it !! So many 'Christians" try to prove to hard, to much that they love God. But as Bishop Davis says always, "Just be the thing" And as Pastor Bolden says "Let the life I live speak for me"

The Unexpected Temptation

I know. . . It's been time for me to write something new.🙈 However, coming across this video from Jackie Hill Perry to prompted me to actually get this post out. One line pierced my heart. "When you have a gift that involves words, one of the ways the enemy will tempt you is to be silent." Wow!  I hone stly think silence is one of the last things that comes to mind when people think of temptation. According to Oxford Languages, the definition of temptation is  the desire to do something, especially something wrong or unwise. I can hear someone asking, "How can silence be wrong or unwise?"  Oh. . . Hold on for just a minute and it will come together. There are times when our obedience [to speak] may be the key to someone else's blessing . Your words and actions could essentially provide healing for your brother or sister in Christ! In the book of Revelation, we read, "And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony.....

"...let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us." - Hebrews 12:1 (KJV)  **If you don't get anything else out of this post, I pray that you realize. . . you really can do all things through Christ - especially when your desire is to please Him! He will strengthen you to walk uprightly before Him.** ---------- Believe me when I say. . . Knowing what you need to do is very  different from actually doing it. Sometimes it is difficult to do what we know is right. That's where I found myself, in November and December of 2022. Let me take you back. . . As a single woman (just in case anybody needs clarification 😉), I was opening myself up to meeting guys and getting to know them when I crossed paths with  Royal . Initially, we seemed to have quite a few things in common: faith, a desire to serve our communities, a strong love for our families, and. . . a way with words. (*insert face...
